Hey Everyone! ) I’m Anna and welcome to my channel. Here, I post some useful information for English learners. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve worked on my English and accent, for the most part, on my own, but you can find out and trace my story by watching my videos. I’ve been studying American pronunciation for a long time, and I still do, and I guess I always will - because it’s not math. Learning a language, it’s a lifetime journey. I know exactly what it takes to become fluent and acquire an accent in a non-English speaking country, and I’ve never even been to one. And I’m sharing this information here - on my channel.

People who only speak to their compatriots in their mother tongue or who are spoken to in broken/incorrect English by native speakers (who assume that the foreigner doesn't understand the content of what they say, no how they say it) will never become fluent, no matter how much they study.

Yup, undestood it all. Love languages. Speak 3 fluently since I was a child. The trick is to read, listen, speak, write, sing and think in the languages you want to learn. At least thats how I did it... Learned norwegian in Norway, spanish in Chile and English reading and Hollywood.

I don't know, I guess even not every native speaker would get that, because watching all movies is impossible? I only watched Barbie and so I recognized the name Ken of course and Barbieheimer because I heard these two movies were released at the same time.

I thought "Ken and Kitty, leaving all that fodder in the dust" was 1. A word play with Cannon (Ken and) fodder for cannon fodder and one of the movies being related to a war... guess I looked too much into it.

It's unfortunate that that English teacher disagreed with you because I sincerely believe majority of the English teachers are not aware of how to teach English, since they are also the byproducts of the f*cked-up education system. Thank you for insightful information you shared here.

A lot of people in these comments seem to just be mad they missed the punchline of all these jokes but dont want to admit it lol. Its all good, you can just admit that you're not as fluent as you may think or have more things to learn. Im bilingual, grew up with english and telugu, and I didnt understand a couple of these references (the watergate one always confuses me), but got most of them. Some of these I would not have understood a couple years ago, so I educated myself. Nothing wrong with admitting you have more to learn yall. Just accept it and dont shoot the messenger. This video was spot on. Using humor and jokes is an EXCELLENT way to judge how immersed in a culture you are. You've reached expert level if you start to pick up on that stuff.

Things like barbenheimers have nothing to do with speaking fluent English, but rather with the country you come from, if I, as a German, say I have a real wanderlust today, then no American would understand what I'm talking about

i caught everything except the third joke because i literally have never heard of them, while some that i caught on too was something i understand on surface level and didn't actually understood the meaning of. this is coming from a self taught dude on the internet, i consider myself fluent in some areas but this is a whole nother nut to crack.
